Welcome to "Drivingacar.co.uk"

I have worked as a Driving Standards Agency approved Driving Instructor for many years and I am very aware of the questions people ask and the information they want when looking for the best driving school. My aim with this website is to provide people with information and give them the knowledge required to make a fully informed choice when choosing the best lessons in Glenrothes.

Drivingacar.co.uk is a website designed to provide you with all the information you need when looking for Driving Lessons. There are lots of things to consider when looking for lessons, you need to be aware of the Instructors experience and how qualified the driving instructor is. Don't think that all driving instructors are the same and that you will get the same quality and value from a lesson whoever delivers it. All driving instructors have to pass the same exams although as with most teachers there are good and bad.

Below is a list of more immediate questions I get asked when people make enquiries about driving lessons although there is a list of useful information regarding lessons and the driving tests on the left.

Changes to the theory test in 2012!!

From January 2012 the current list of published questions will no longer be used for the theory test, from January a new unpublished list of questions will be used, this is to try and ecourage pupils to understand driving theory rather than memorising a set list of questions and answers.

How much is a Driving Lesson ?

Looking for the cheapest driving lesson you can find is very tempting and from my experience it's normally the first question someone asks when making enquiries about driving lessons. Obviously cost has to play a part when choosing a driving school, but cheap lessons could mean more lessons!

Good instructors are normally happy to tell you their grade and pass rate and could quite normally be very busy, but more importantly will probably charge a fair price for a fair job normally around the £20 per hour mark.

What car will you be driving on your lessons ?

The type of car is more important to some pupils than others, it shouldn't make that much difference what type of car you use when learning to drive although a newer small to medium sized car is what most instructors tend to use.

Most instructors will use a car fitted with dual controls, although this isn't a legal requirement most instructors insurance company's will insist that they are using a dual controlled car to teach with. It can also be reassuring from the pupils point of view knowing that the instructor has some control over the car.

Picking a suitable approved Driving Instructor in Glenrothes

It's very important when looking for Driving Lessons that you make sure you know a little bit about how Driving Instructors work and how the law works in relation to Instructors.

Every Driving Instructor who works in the U.K. has to be qualified either as a Trainee Driving Instructor or as a Fully Qualified Driving Instructor, and their Instructors Licence as pictured below should be clearly displayed in the nearside(left side) front windscreen of the car, and you as a pupil should be allowed to see the Instructors licence on request.
Trainee Driving Instructors are allowed to work for a period of 6 months (sometimes longer), during this period they must train in conjunction with a Driving School until they have finished their training and have passed the final exam in their attempt to become a fully qualified driving instructor.
Some people are of the view that they should be aware of wether they are to be given a trainee instructor when they make enquires about starting driving lessons, but everyone has to learn how to do their job and the best way to learn how to be an instructor is to practice the job with real pupils.
If you think that learning with a trainee may not best option for you then you need to make enquiries with the school about how qualified the instructor is that will be giving you the lessons, driving schools are not obliged to tell you about the qualifications of the instructor when you make enquiries, although most will give you the information if you ask.

Licence

All Driving Instructors working in this country should be approved and licenced by the Driving Standards Agency, and regardless of which school they work for are graded by the Driving Standards Agency. It is very tempting to choose a driving school based on a glossy advert and a good sales technique when you phone to enquire about lessons. But the truth is that all working instructors are working within exactly the same licensing laws.

By far the best way to choose a driving school is through recommendation that's how I get most if not all of my work.
Don't choose a driving instructor based on cost alone, there are lots of driving schools working and advertising driving lessons for minimal cost sometimes as low as £8 or £9 per hour, these offers sound great and are very tempting although a driving instructors running costs could be a significant percentage of this amount, so how does the instructor make money? Well these offers are often short term 2 or 3 lessons for example and some schools insist that some of these heavily discounted lessons are taken at the end of the driving course as part of a Pass Plus course for example.
Driving Instructors need to earn a living as do all of us, and a reasonable lesson price of around £20 per hour will allow an instructor to do this and run a modern dual controlled car.
