Choosing Driving Lessons

Looking for help finding driving lessons?

The cost of a driving lesson.

This is always an interesting topic, not all driving lessons are the same and as with most things in life you will normally get what you pay for. It costs money for a driving instructor to setup up a school, pay for and fuel a car and then turn up for you for a driving lesson. I have seen some driving schools charging as little £5 for a 1 hour driving lesson, ask yourself what kind of driving lesson you will get if your driving instructor is taking £5 per hour from you and then having to pay the numerous expenses that go with running a driving school.

Driving lesson prices can vary depending on the area you live in although to be realistic you should be paying around £20 per hour for a driving lesson, for this you should get an honest straight forward driving instructor with modern dual controlled car. Don't be mislead by the driving schools that appear to offer 5 or 6 lessons for £40 or £50, or driving lessons for £5 these deals are hooks to get pupils on board with the school. It could mean you might get an instructor with limited experience, or that the school struggles to get work, and a very low price is the only way they can get people to start lessons with the school. I have seen some pupils who have taken advantage of these offers and not started the cars engine for 3 hours, probably because the instructor can't afford to turn the car on. I have also seen pupils take advantage of these offers and then appear to be held back in making progress, I can only think this is to recoup the cost of the initial discount by encouraging pupils to take more hours to reach test standard.

The ideal approach is to pay a reasonable price for a driving lesson which is around the £20 per hour mark and ideally choose an instructor that has a lot of experience a good reputation and has been well recomended.
